NFRA Annual Membership Luncheon honoring the 2021 Frozen Food Hall of Fame Inductees

The Membership Luncheon serves as NFRA’s official annual business meeting where the latest members of the Board of Directors, as well as the new Chairman will be installed. Current NFRA Chairman Kevin Schwab, The Pictsweet Company, will review NFRA’s accomplishments.
This year, the 2021 inductees to the Frozen Food Hall of Fame will be honored:
Richard Graeter, Graeter’s Ice Cream
Richard earned a BS in Accounting and Finance from Miami University, and a JD from University of Cincinnati College of Law. He practiced law briefly at Dinsmore & Shohl, after which he joyfully returned to help grow his family’s ice cream business. Richard is currently the President and CEO of Graeter’s Ice Cream, which for four generations has remained dedicated to the tradition of handcrafting artisanal ice cream in extremely small two-and-a-half gallon batches using old-fashioned French Pot freezers. Since becoming CEO in 2007, Richard has worked with his cousins and a fantastic team to expand Graeter’s to cities throughout the Midwest, opening stores in Cincinnati, Columbus, Dayton, Chicago, Cleveland and Pittsburgh, as well as expanding distribution to grocery stores across the US. In recognition of his leadership, the Specialty Food Association inducted Richard into their Hall of Fame in 2020, amongst many other awards and recognition.
Ray Tarnowski, Philadelphia Warehousing & Cold Storage
The oldest of seven, Ray was the first in his family to graduate from college, obtaining a Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting in 1977. He began working at Philadelphia Cold Storage and Warehousing in 1979 after retiring from his Professional Basketball career in Sweden. After a noteworthy 41 year career in the industry, Ray retired from Philadelphia Cold Storage and Warehousing in 2020 where he successfully managed the sale of the warehouse, which was the oldest frozen food warehouse in the United States at the time. Ray’s involvement in the professional organizations over his four decades-long career is truly exceptional. He has served in a leadership capacity in multiple organizations including Treasurer of NFRA for 20 years, from 1999-2019. Ray remains heavily involved in the industry and enjoys the relationships and friendships he has built in the refrigerated and frozen food business. His ability to mentor and serve as a resource for colleagues is unparalleled and is a large part of his successful career.

Awards Luncheon honoring the 2022 Golden Penguin Award Winners

This luncheon will honor the frozen and refrigerated Golden Penguin Award winners for March National Frozen Food Month, June Dairy Month and the June/July Summer Favorites Ice Cream & Novelties promotions. Only the most successful in-store promotions receive the elite distinction of being named a Golden Penguin Award winner; they represent the most original and resourceful merchandising strategies in our creative industry.
The highly anticipated announcement of the Top Marketer winners will be revealed, along with recognition of the highest scoring entry in each of the Overall Marketing Campaign subcategories.
